I think I’ll just stay…

I keep trying to write this post up, and I seriously have no words for it. Everyone back home kept saying I’d come out here and want to stay because of the snow but packing up the truck on Monday is going to be way harder than I thought.

It’s not the snow. I mean, it’s nice and all to have powder and see white fluffy stuff everywhere you look, but to be in a part of a country with such a love for the season, such politeness towards strangers (far beyond hospitality), and a respect for the environment – I feel like I found my new home. Traitor? Maybe. Don’t read into it too much New Englanders, but it’s a different way of living out here.

Anyways, this is going to be mostly a picture post as I’m not doing Heavenly’s review quite yet. Rob and I visited many of the trails in the two days we’ve been out already (with 2 days to go on the slopes), but it’s not fair to do the review until I’m done. A hint though: it’s going to be good.

So where to start? Well probably the drive there. We flew into San Francisco, so we had the pleasure of driving through the hills and Route 50. It’s funny and a little scary how just 20 miles and a few thousand few feet of elevation can make a huge difference in what you’re driving in.

Still green... but not for long

It got wayyyy better than this!

I still need to take a bunch of pictures around Heavenly, and I’m working on putting together the best panorama ever (my Macbook isn’t cooperating so far), but Rob and I couldn’t pass up and opportunity to get our photo taken on the world famous overlook by one of the EpicMix photographers.

The infamous scenic view point...

The biggest thing we’ve been trying to get accustom to (other than the difference in air at 10,000 ft) is that 60 inches of snow out here does not mean that tree skiing is open. Back home we’re throwing ourselves around trees with 10 inches of snow, so it’s kind of a mind bender. But after finding a few areas where we could play around and discovering the fallen trees and boulders underneath, I’m starting to understand why a few more feet are needed.

Big trees = Need for Big Snow!

So, everyone else can have the scenic overlook, but my favorite spot is in the photo below. It kind of reminds me of home because all I can see is mountains, but they’re massive. I think I’ll just stay right here. =)

Yep, right here.

Ah the west….I love it too. I’m ready to pack the car and move anytime, just let me know when.

Looks like fun. You can’t stay, I’ll have no one to talk to in the office!
